If you are near a window, make sure the light comes over your shoulder. Do not allow your shadow to be on the stone. To view inclusions in a gem, put your light behind the stone and let it shine through to see the interior. By adjusting, you can usually see both the surface and interior of a gem. To help reduce eye strain, keep both eyes open.
