This is a true piece of American banking history: a triple-movement time lock by The Yale & Towne Mfg. Co. of Stamford, Connecticut. Locks like this sat inside vault doors and kept the bolt work from releasing until a preset time had passed, no matter who knew the combination. Three clocks were used so that if one stopped, the other two kept the lock on schedule.

Each dial is marked “THE YALE & TOWNE MFG. CO., STAMFORD, CONN. U.S.A.” One dial also appears partly marked “…E.BOLD®,” most likely Diebold, which suggests a later production unit. The red “EMERGENCY – TURN RED KNOB – TO RELEASE TIME LOCK CONTROL – YALE” plate and red knob are still in place, and the brass gear train with jeweled pivots is visible behind a clear acrylic display plate with lenses over each dial. Family history says it was removed from the vault door of an old Sparks bank building, said to be the former Nevada National Bank, since demolished. A striking piece for collectors of locksmith history, bank memorabilia and antique mechanisms.
